After nearly half a century of violent civil war and unrest, the people of South Sudan can finally claim their nation as their own. While independence in itself is a great victory for the people of South Sudan, it is only the beginning in the long road towards development. The country’s leaders must now confront South Sudan’s most difficult challenges; such as the lack of clean water, the development of an adequate healthcare system and extreme poverty.
